Costumes, Photos, and Recitals, Oh My!

Despite how interminable the snow seems to be, it always feels like the dance season is over in the blink of an eye. And of course, our magnificent shows always come with a whole host of questions about the where, when, and how for costumes, photos, dress rehearsals, roses to gift the dancers, and the shows themselves, so we want to demystify the process as much as possible all in one place.

Costumes

Costumes are a fun and essential part of our recital. The costumes chosen by your teachers are meant to suit their dance, match them to their friends, look professional on stage, and help your dancer embody their confident stage persona.

Many costumes have already arrived and been handed out to your dancers, and the rest are on their way. It is imperative that these costumes are hung and kept in a safe place with all their accessories until they have been used for both photos and recital because if they are to be damaged or lost, there is no way of knowing if we can order in another costume in time for the show. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your costumes, please bring them up as soon as possible.

Another key element to your costumes are the tights and shoes that your teacher has assigned to be worn with them. The shoes for recital are the ones that you already have for your regular weekly classes, but you will need to purchase the tights separately. Our South and West locations have a wide range of tights for sale in the office for your convenience. If we do not have the tights you require, we recommend purchasing them from Bodythings or City Dancewear.

*Please note, “ballet pink” tights don’t really look “pink,” but are instead a pink-ish off-white. If you would like to see an example of ballet pink tights, please ask our administrative staff.*

Photos & Dress Rehearsals

At Prestige, we want to make things as easy as possible for the dancers leading up to the shows. For this reason, we have wrapped our photo and dress rehearsal days into one day during your regularly scheduled class times.

On your photo day, come to your regular class, wearing your costume, tights, and shoes (and makeup, if you so choose), and our amazing professional photographers work with your teachers to take stunning individual and group photos of your dancer. When they are not being photographed, your dancers will be in the other room, rehearsing their dances in their costumes and cheering on other classes as they rehearse.

Even if you choose not to purchase photos, please ensure you attend photo day so that our group photos are complete and so that your dancer has a chance to feel comfortable dancing in their costumes. This is a time where we make sure that all dancers are on the same page while we capture priceless memories.

Pre-Ordered Roses

Even though April showers led to May snow, our minds are still on flowers—our beautiful pre-ordered roses, that is.

We know how special it is when our dancers’ most adoring fans gift them flowers at the end of yet another spectacular performance, but we also know it’s hard to surprise them with the flowers if you drive there with them. With this in mind, each year we run a pre-order of single, roses for you to pick up and gift to your dancer at the show.

Keep an eye on your email inbox for the pre-order form to order your roses. Please note that roses will not be available for sale at the venue.

Lyrical and Modern Dance

Recitals & Tickets

Our recitals will be held at Mount Royal University in the Bella Concert Hall on June 8 & 9, 2024. Emails have already been sent out with the details of which show(s) your dancer will be in, and it is important to note the arrival time for each show.

The links to purchase your tickets will be sent out in the following weeks to purchase online. Seats are chosen at the time of ticket checkout based on first-come, first-served. Tickets are not available at the door.

On the day of the recital, please drop off your dancer—in their costumes and with their hair done—with a Prestige teacher at their indicated time. This allows dancers to get warmed up and comfortable before the show starts, as well as allowing teachers to do attendance and prepare the lineup for the start of the show. All dancers in each show must arrive at the drop-off time, regardless of their dance’s placement in the show.

If your dancer is in multiple routines during the show, please let a teacher know, and have each costume in order and clearly labelled. A teacher will assist any dancers that require help preparing for their next routine so that all parents/guardians can sit back and enjoy the show.

Please ensure that your dancer has used the washroom before their drop-off time, and you may leave them with a clean, nut-free snack and water bottle. Teachers and volunteers will be in the holding area with dancers at all times, ensuring that they are occupied and where they need to be at all times.

At the end of the shows, we will invite one parent to collect their dancers directly from the stage so that teachers can see that each dancer is safely with a parent or guardian.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to our administrative staff. We are so excited to showcase your dancers’ hard work and passion next month. Here’s to happy, active kids who thrive!
